It is my 3rd day here in Amsterdam and i
just love it so far.
Our plane arrived in time at 19:10 on
Sunday. Fortunately, we did not have to wait too long for our luggages. At
Schiphol Airport I saw some weird machines, which looked a lot like
bicycles. While "riding", people can produce energy to charge their
phones, laptops or other devices. What a green idea…
We travelled home by public transport. In
Amsterdam besides purchasing season tickets, you can buy a special chip card. This
makes it way easier to pay for your travel. All you have to do is
to hold them in front of a special sensor before getting on and getting
off metros, trams etc. This way you can check in and check out. The fare will be
calculated according to the distance you have travelled. After checking out, the money will be simply
removed from your card.
After a couple of days, i had to realise,
that using public transport is not the cheapest way to get from A to B. I would
recommend everyone to use bikes, like many people do here. We both have bikes,
and we are planning to use them instead of public transport as much as we can. In
Amsterdam bike routes cover most of the city.
There are wide open places around our flat
and nearby there is a lake, called Gaasperplas. The neighbourhood is perfect
for running, cycling and relaxing. There is opportunity for fishing too. The shop
is about 20 mins away on foot. On our way there we saw sheeps, ducks, swans and
cranes. It’s magical. I love living here already. <3
